Description: This course will provide training in all aspects of the Scout requirements of the T1 Hill Walking permit. It will focus on navigation techniques, route planning, group management, equipment etc. The course will be aimed at leaders with little or no experience who may want to see if leading groups in the hills is for them, through to more experienced walkers who wish to improve their skills or even have the chance of a mock assessment. There will be no opportunity for assessment, as we plan to continue to base all assessments around the venue that we use in Snowdonia. There will be several County Instructors on hand and the training will be tailored to the needs of the trainees. We will be aiming for a ratio of 1 instructor to 4 trainees. On the Tuesday prior to that weekend there will be an evening theory session, giving trainees the chance to meet the team, cover some theory work, POR etc and plan routes for the weekend. This will run from 7.30 to 9.30 at a location to be determined, but probably a Scout HQ in Stafford. As a result of this meeting the venue for Saturday or Sunday may change.
